February 24: Loving God Through Obedience
— John 14:21 (NIV)
"Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them."
Obedience—The Mark of Genuine Love
Have you ever noticed that love isn’t just something we feel—it’s something we do?
We see this in our everyday relationships. A parent sacrifices for their child. A husband or wife remains faithful, even in tough times. Real love isn’t passive; it moves, it acts, it obeys.
Jesus made it clear: “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.” Love for God isn’t just about singing worship songs or saying the right words. It’s about trusting Him enough to obey, even when it’s hard.
Maybe He’s asking you to forgive someone who hurt you deeply. Maybe He’s leading you to step out in faith when fear grips your heart. Maybe He’s prompting you to be generous when finances feel tight. Obedience often costs us something—but what if that cost is the very thing making room for something greater?
The good news? God never asks us to obey on our own strength. His grace empowers us. And when we obey, we experience His presence in ways we never imagined. Obedience opens doors to miracles, breakthroughs, and a deeper relationship with God. When we trust His ways above our own understanding, we find that His plans are always for our good.

The Beauty of Surrender
Imagine standing at the edge of a cliff, terrified to jump, but hearing God’s voice saying, “Trust me.”
That’s what obedience often feels like.
Jesus knows this struggle—He lived it. In the Garden of Gethsemane, facing the weight of the cross, He prayed, “Not my will, but yours be done.” Obedience wasn’t easy, but His love for the Father was greater than His fear of suffering. Because of His surrender, we have salvation.
What about you? Is God calling you to surrender something? Maybe it’s control over your future, a toxic relationship, or an old wound you’re afraid to let go of. Maybe He’s calling you to walk away from a comfortable situation because He has something better. Surrender isn’t losing—it’s making space for something greater.
God never asks us to surrender without a purpose. Every act of obedience leads to deeper intimacy with Jesus. He promises, “I will love them and show myself to them.” The more we surrender, the more we see Him.
The more we lay down our desires, the more we find His perfect peace.
Think of a time when surrendering to God brought unexpected blessings.
Was it hard? Absolutely. But was it worth it? Every time.
The Boldness to Obey
Peter saw Jesus walking on water and said, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come.” And Jesus did. Peter stepped out of the boat—and for a moment, he did the impossible.
Obedience is stepping out, even when it doesn’t make sense. It’s trusting that if Jesus calls you, He’ll sustain you. But let’s be real—it’s scary. Sometimes we hesitate because we don’t have all the answers. We want certainty, but God calls us to faith.
Maybe God is calling you to start something new, to speak truth boldly, or to simply take the next step forward. Maybe it’s sharing your faith with a friend, starting a ministry, or pursuing a calling that seems beyond your ability.
Don’t let fear hold you back. The safest place isn’t in the boat—it’s wherever Jesus is.
