March 3: First Things First: The Freedom of Seeking God’s Kingdom
📖 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
The Pursuit That Leaves Us Empty
Have you ever felt like you’re constantly chasing something just out of reach? Success, security, a sense of worth? It feels like no matter how hard you work or how much you gain, there’s always a lingering feeling that something is missing.
I remember a season when I was striving for everything I thought I needed—more income, more stability, more recognition. But no matter how much I achieved, peace never came. My heart remained restless, and I couldn’t understand why.
Then I read Matthew 6:33 again—not just with my eyes, but with my heart.
➡️ Seek first the kingdom of God.
❌ Not success.
❌ Not security.
❌ Not even solutions.
✔️ Just Him.
Jesus knew our tendency to worry, to try and control outcomes. He knew we’d chase everything but Him, believing that if we just worked harder, everything would fall into place.
But He turns that thinking upside down:
💡 Don’t chase those things—chase Me.
When we truly seek God first, we find that He’s already holding everything we need.
Think about that for a moment.
🔹 What if all this striving is unnecessary?
🔹 What if the security and fulfillment we long for don’t come from our own effort but from drawing near to God?
When we focus on Him first, we step into a life of peace that isn’t tied to our circumstances.
If this resonates with you, let me encourage you today:
✨ You don’t have to chase the wind.
✨ You don’t have to be exhausted from running in circles.
✨ God’s kingdom is your foundation, not an afterthought.
Take a moment to pause and ask yourself:
👉 Am I truly seeking Him first, or am I seeking everything else and hoping He fits into the gaps?
What Seeking First Really Looks Like
Seeking God’s kingdom isn’t about checking religious boxes—it’s about relationship.
It’s choosing to trust Him before we check our bank account.
It’s praying before we panic.
It’s putting people over productivity, faith over fear, obedience over convenience.
✔️ It’s about making Him the center of everything, not just a part of our Sunday routine.
Living Out Matthew 6:33 Daily
👑 It looks like surrender.
That moment when we release our white-knuckled grip on our plans and say, “God, I trust You more than I trust myself.”
Surrender isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. It’s acknowledging that we can’t do this alone and that He knows better than we do.
🎶 It looks like worship in the waiting.
When the answer hasn’t come, when the breakthrough feels far away, but we praise Him anyway. We declare His goodness even when we don’t see it yet.
🙌 It looks like small acts of faithfulness.
Choosing integrity at work. Showing kindness to a difficult neighbor. Giving when it doesn’t make sense—because God’s ways are higher than ours.
💤 It looks like resting in His provision.
Instead of worrying ourselves into exhaustion, we rest in the fact that He is our provider. We do our part, but we leave the results to Him.
You don’t have to have everything figured out.
👉 Seeking God first doesn’t mean performing perfectly—it means coming to Him authentically.
Even in your mess.
Even in your questions.
He’s not waiting for you to have all the answers; He’s waiting for you to turn to Him first.
So today, take a step.
✅ Before you reach for your phone in the morning, reach for your Bible.
✅ Before you let anxiety take over, whisper a prayer.
✅ Before you plan your next move, seek Him first.
👀 Watch how He moves in your life when you do.
A Fresh Start Today
Maybe you’ve been carrying the weight of your own plans, stress, and striving. Maybe you’ve been searching for peace in all the wrong places.
If that’s you, hear this:
💛 You don’t have to keep living that way.
Jesus offers you a better way.
Let today be the day you seek Him first—not just in theory, but in practice.
🛑 Lay down the chase.
👑 Choose the kingdom.
🙏 Trust that when you do, everything else will follow in ways you never imagined.
Choosing Peace Over Pressure
Imagine waking up with peace instead of pressure.
Imagine trusting God so deeply that fear no longer has a hold on you.
This isn’t wishful thinking—it’s the reality of a life truly surrendered to Him. But it starts with a choice.
If you’re ready to make that choice, pray this with me:
Father, I’m tired of chasing after things that don’t satisfy.
I lay it all at Your feet today.
Help me to seek You first, to trust You fully, and to walk in the peace that comes from knowing You hold everything in Your hands.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
