🌿 Sarah: God Keeps His BIG Promises! | Bible Stories for Kids.
Meet Sarah
Hello friends! Today we’re going to meet an amazing woman from the Bible named Sarah 👋. Sarah lived a VERY long time ago (about 4,000 years!), and she has one of the most exciting stories in the whole Bible ✨. She was married to Abraham, who is known as the "Father of Faith," which makes Sarah pretty special too! Sarah’s story is all about big promises, long waiting, and how God can do things that seem TOTALLY impossible 🌟.
Even when Sarah was super old—like great-grandma old—God gave her a surprise that made her laugh with joy! Her story teaches us that God keeps His promises even when they seem crazy impossible, and that’s why Sarah is such an awesome person to learn about 🌈!
🌍 Fun Facts & Background 🌍
🏠 Sarah originally lived in a place called Ur (sounds like "err"), which was a big city with tall buildings made of mud bricks. It was near where Iraq is today 🌆.
👵 Sarah lived to be 127 years old! That’s probably the oldest woman mentioned in the entire Bible. Imagine celebrating that many birthdays! 🎂
🌟 Sarah’s name was actually changed by God Himself! She was first called "Sarai" (suh-RYE), but God changed it to "Sarah," which means "princess" 👑.
🐪 Sarah lived in tents and traveled on camels because her family moved around a lot. Imagine having to pack up your whole house and move it on camels whenever you needed to travel! 🏕️
🇪🇬 Sarah was so beautiful that even when she was over 60 years old, the Pharaoh of Egypt (like a king) wanted to marry her! God had to step in and protect her 🌈.
🍞 Sarah was known for making delicious bread! When special visitors came to their tent (who turned out to be angels!), Abraham asked Sarah to quickly bake some fresh bread for them 🥖.
⚡ Adventure Time! (Key Stories) ⚡
🌄 The Big Move and God’s Promise
Sarah’s adventure begins when her husband Abraham told her that God had spoken to him! "Pack up everything," Abraham said with excitement in his eyes. "God wants us to move to a brand new land, and He promised that we’ll have a huge family with lots and lots of children and grandchildren!" 🏕️
Sarah probably looked around at all their stuff and thought, "Move where exactly?" But she trusted Abraham and helped pack their tents, gather their sheep and camels, and say goodbye to all their friends and family. That took real courage! Imagine moving to a place you’ve never seen before, with no Google Maps to help you find your way! 🧭
As they traveled across deserts and mountains, Sarah must have wondered about God’s promise of many children. You see, Sarah and Abraham had been married for many years, but they didn’t have any children yet. Every month when no baby came, Sarah’s heart probably felt a little heavier 💔.
🇪🇬 The Scary Egyptian Adventure
One year, there wasn’t enough rain in their new land, and the grass dried up. Their animals were hungry, so Abraham decided they should go to Egypt where there was food 🌵. But as they got closer to Egypt, Abraham got worried.
"Sarah," he whispered one night by the campfire, "you’re so beautiful that I’m afraid the Egyptians might want to take you away to marry their king. Tell them you’re my sister instead of my wife." (Abraham wasn’t telling a complete lie—Sarah was actually his half-sister, but she was definitely his wife too!)
Just as Abraham feared, the Egyptian king’s officials spotted Sarah and told the king how beautiful she was. Soon palace guards came to take Sarah to the palace! 😱 Can you imagine how scared she must have felt, being taken away from her family to a strange palace?
But God was watching over Sarah! He sent terrible plagues on the king’s house. The king quickly figured out that something was wrong and discovered the truth about Sarah being Abraham’s wife. The king sent Sarah back to Abraham right away, and even gave them lots of animals and servants as an apology! God had protected Sarah in an amazing way 🌟.
👶 The Special Visitors and a Surprising Promise
Many years passed—like, A LOT of years. Sarah and Abraham were now very old. One hot day, three special visitors arrived at their tent. Abraham hurried to welcome them and asked Sarah to bake some bread 🥖.
As Sarah mixed the dough, she overheard something incredible. One of the visitors said to Abraham, "When I come back next year, your wife Sarah will be holding a baby boy!"
Sarah couldn’t help herself—she laughed! She was 90 years old! That would be like your great-grandmother having a baby. It seemed completely impossible! 😂
"Why did Sarah laugh?" the visitor asked. "Is anything too hard for God?"
Sarah got scared and denied laughing, but the visitor (who was actually God!) knew the truth. God wasn’t angry with Sarah for doubting—He understood that His promise seemed unbelievable. But God wanted Sarah to know that He can do ANYTHING, even things that seem totally impossible!
😄 Baby Isaac Arrives!
Just as God promised, the impossible happened! When Sarah was 90 years old, she had a baby boy! 👶 They named him Isaac, which means "he laughs"—a perfect name because Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter! Everyone who hears about this will laugh with amazement!"
Can you imagine the joy in their tent? After waiting almost her whole life, Sarah was finally a mother! She got to cuddle her very own baby, sing him lullabies, and watch him learn to walk and talk. Every time she looked at Isaac, she was reminded that God keeps His promises, even when they seem impossible. Sarah’s adventure shows us that God’s timeline might be different from ours, but His promises always come true in the end!
🌟 What Can We Learn? 🌟
🙏 God Keeps His Promises (Even Really Big Ones!)
Sarah had to wait until she was 90 years old for God’s promise to come true! That’s a super long time—longer than your grandparents have been alive! Sometimes we pray for something and get impatient when God doesn’t answer right away. Sarah’s story teaches us that God always keeps His promises, but sometimes we need to wait for His perfect timing. Next time you’re waiting for something important, remember Sarah and try to be patient 🕰️.
🌈 Nothing Is Too Hard for God
When Sarah heard she would have a baby at 90 years old, she laughed because it seemed impossible. But God asked, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" The answer is NO! God can do things that doctors, scientists, and even superheroes can’t do! Maybe you’re facing something that seems impossible—like making a really tough team, healing from an injury, or making up with a friend after a big fight. Remember Sarah’s story and know that God specializes in doing the impossible 💪!
🏫 Everyone Makes Mistakes (Even Bible Heroes!)
Sarah wasn’t perfect. When she got tired of waiting for God’s promise, she made a plan to give Abraham her servant Hagar as a second wife (people did things differently back then). This caused a lot of problems and hurt feelings. Later, Sarah got jealous and wasn’t very nice to Hagar. But even with Sarah’s mistakes, God still loved her and used her in His big plan. This teaches us that when we make mistakes, God still loves us and can still use us for good things 🤗.
🤝 We Can Help Each Other Have Faith
When Sarah laughed at God’s promise, she was all alone behind the tent flap. Sometimes it’s harder to believe when we’re by ourselves. Later, when she saw Abraham’s faith and remembered God’s faithfulness in the past, her faith grew stronger. This teaches us that we need friends and family to help us trust God! When your faith feels small, talk to someone whose faith is strong. And when your friends are having trouble believing, you can help remind them of God’s promises 👭👬!
🌱 Waiting Time Isn’t Wasted Time
Sarah waited almost 100 years to become a mother! During that waiting time, she learned patience, traveled to new countries, met different people, and grew in her relationship with God. When we’re waiting for something important, God is often growing something special inside us—like patience, kindness, or courage. So instead of just saying "Are we there yet?" during waiting times, we can look for what God might be teaching us along the way 🌱.
💬 Awesome Quotes or Bible Verses 💬
🌬️ Genesis 18:14
"Is anything too hard for the Lord?"
God asked this question when Sarah laughed at the idea of having a baby at 90 years old. It’s a question we can ask ourselves whenever we face something that seems impossible! Whether it’s a super hard math test, making the soccer team, or helping to fix a problem in your family—nothing is too hard for God! He might not always do exactly what we expect, but He’s always working on a great plan ✨.
🌬️ Genesis 21:1
"The Lord did for Sarah what he had promised."
This simple verse tells us something super important: God ALWAYS keeps His promises! Even though Sarah had to wait a really long time, God didn’t forget her. God has made many promises to us in the Bible too—to love us, to be with us, and to help us. Just like with Sarah, God will keep every single promise He’s made to you! 🌟
🌬️ Genesis 21:6
"Sarah said, ‘God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.’"
Sarah was so happy when baby Isaac was born that she couldn’t help laughing with joy! Her happy laughter replaced her doubtful laughter from before. This verse reminds us that God can turn our sadness into joy and our doubts into celebration. And the cool thing is—when we share our stories of how God has helped us, it can bring joy to others too! 😄
🧠 Let’s Think & Talk! 🧠
🎲 If you were Sarah packing to move to a new land God promised, what three special things would you definitely take with you? Why?
🌟 Sarah had to wait a VERY long time for baby Isaac. What’s something you’ve had to wait a long time for? How did you feel while waiting? Was it worth the wait?
🤔 Sarah laughed when she heard God’s promise because it seemed impossible. Has God ever done something in your life that seemed impossible? Or is there something in your life right now that feels impossible that you could pray about?
💭 If you could ask Sarah one question about her adventures, what would you ask her?
